The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk men’s basketball team (9-5) took down Lang
Prep Academy in the Kettle Tuesday, defeating the Thunder, 102-54.
In its first game in more than three weeks, NPC shook off its rust early. Trailing,
5-4, three minutes into the game, the Nighthawks hit their stride with a 13-0 run
to take the lead for good. Led by an 11-point effort from sophomore forward Nichus
Jackson (Trenton, New Jersey) and eight points from freshman guard Patrick Punch (Houston,
Texas) NPC cruised for most of the first 20 minutes, finishing with a 55-30 advantage
at halftime.
NPC kept its foot on the gas in the second half, erupting on a 23-3 run over the first
six minutes of the period to keep the Thunder at bay. With big performances from freshman
guard Nakavieon White (Odessa, Texas) and sophomore guard Justin Davis (Waterbury,
Connecticut), the Nighthawks had no issue sealing their first victory of 2023.
Jackson led NPC in scoring with 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Davis finished with
14 points. White and sophomore guard T.J. Fritz (Wamego, Kansas) scored 13 points
apiece while Punch added 12 points in the win.
The Nighthawks play host to University of Arkansas Cossatot Saturday, January 14,
at 2 p.m. to begin NJCAA Region II play. The Nighthawk women tip off at 2 p.m. followed
