NPC Welding students constructed a book cart for the Cutter Morning Star School District
library this semester.
NPC Welding instructor Jeff Estright learned about the need for a book cart while
attending a parent-teacher conference.
“I went to a parent-teacher conference and a librarian that knew where I worked asked
if we could build her a library cart to help the kids out. I said, ‘Yes, anything
to help out the kids.’ She gave me a design and then we took that design and modified
it a little bit so it would be better for them,” said Estright.
Estright said the book cart is durable and functional due to the materials used, the
craftsmanship, and the design of the cart. Welding students Carlos Alvarado and Brandon
Millikin worked on the project together using techniques they learned in Estright’s
welding class.
“It feels good. I never really thought I would make something for them, but I went
there all my life and it feels good to just give them something to use. It will last
a while because the thing is solid,” said Alvarado.
“I’m glad we could contribute and make something nice for the school,” added Millikin.
