Freshman first baseman Cameron Tyson (Cullen, Louisiana) was clutch for NPC in the series opener, smashing a three-run home run in the first inning to grab the lead early. Taking a 3-2 advantage into the bottom of the fourth inning, NPC rallied for five additional runs, capitalized by Tyson’s second homer of the game—a two-run blast. HSU added two runs in the top of the fifth inning, but could not complete the comeback in the seven-inning showdown.

Sophomore hurler Jaden Lewis (Tyler, Texas) picked up the win for NPC, allowing four runs on five hits with six strikeouts over four and two-thirds innings. Tyson and sophomore center fielder Josh Beezley (Sydney, Australia) led NPC at the plate with two hits apiece.

After HSU made things interesting in the fifth inning, hitting two homers to plate three runs, the Nighthawks responded with RBI doubles from Tyson and freshman shortstop Bryson Sellier (Houston, Texas) in the bottom of the inning to pad the lead. In the eighth inning, Tyson delivered a solo home run, his third round-tripper of the series, to cement NPC’s fourth win over the Reddies this season.

Sophomore pitcher Myles Anderson (Houston, Texas) was stellar in the start for NPC, allowing one hit while notching three strikeouts over three innings. Tyson finished three-for-four at the plate with a double and a home run while sophomore second baseman D’Angelo Hinojosa (Houston, Texas) added three hits in the win.

The Nighthawks travel to USA Stadium in Millington, Tennessee this weekend for a four-game series. NPC faces Itawamba and Lincoln Trail at noon and 5 p.m., respectively, Friday and closes out the road trip against Iowa Central and Lewis & Clark College at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively, Saturday.
