Nighthawks Basketball Earns All-Region Honors
Four members of the National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk men’s and women’s basketball
teams were named to the 2022 NJCAA Division II All-Region team this week for their
outstanding performance on the court this season. 
For the Nighthawk women, sophomore India Atkins (Bryant) was selected to the All-Region
first team. Atkins finished second on the team in scoring, averaging 14.5 points per
game this season, while leading the team in three-point shooting (32.3%), assists
per game (3) and steals per game (2.8). In her second season with NPC, Atkins broke
the Nighthawks’ career scoring record (528 total points), career steals record (82
total steals) and single-season steals record (59).
Freshman Kayla Richardson (Grannis) was named to the All-Region second team. In her
first season with NPC, Richardson set the Nighthawks’ single-season scoring record
(325 total points) and single-season record for free throws made (111), averaging
14.8 points per game, while leading the team in free throw shooting (83.5%).
“These two young ladies have been outstanding examples of where our women’s basketball
program is headed,” NPC Athletic Director Jason Hudnell said. “Anyone who watched
us play this year knows that we have grown so much as a team and as a program. Both
India and Kayla are major pieces of what we are building. It is exciting to see them
named to the All-Region team, and even more exciting to know that they will both be
in Nighthawk uniforms next year, as well!”
For the Nighthawk men, sophomores Sayvon Traylor (Atlanta, GA) and Kam Vick (Little
Rock) were selected
to the All-Region second team. Averaging 15.4 points per game, Traylor led the Nighthawks
in scoring this season, including a team-best 54.2% field goal shooting percentage
and a team-best 43.1% three-point shooting percentage. The sophomore’s team-best 87.2%
free throw shooting percentage also ranked seventh, nationally.
Averaging 12.2 points per game, Vick finished second in scoring while leading the
team in assists (106) and three-pointers made (59) this season. Vick finishes his
Nighthawk career as NPC’s career leader in free throws made (193), three-pointers
made (125), assists (264), steals (58), and points scored (918).
“I am incredibly proud that our league recognized both Kamryn and Sayvon for their
exemplary play this year,” Hudnell said. “Both of these young men chose to return
to NPC for their ‘super sophomore’ season. Each of them had other opportunities after
last season but they were committed to NPC and helping us continue to lay the groundwork
for what will be the premier athletic program in the region. These young men have
shown leadership both on and off the floor and will be great ambassadors for Nighthawk
Nation as they move on to their next chapter.”
