Nighthawks Baseball Sweeps CBC

The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawks baseball team (7-6) swept its nonconference series with Central Baptist College’s junior varsity team at Hot Springs World Class High School on Tuesday, defeating the Mustangs, 24-0, in game one and 14-5 in game two.

In a 22-hit affair that featured five home runs, the Nighthawks plated two runs in the second, three runs in the third, six runs in the fourth and three runs in the sixth en route to the shutout victory.

Jimerson led the Nighthawks in hitting, finishing 4-5 at the plate with three doubles and a grand slam. Freshmen Daeton Bassett (Fountain Lake), Jesus Minjarez (Hot Springs), Zach Hardcastle (Cabot) and Jalen Hicks (Baton Rouge, LA) each hit roundtrippers in the win.

Freshman pitcher Zach Murphy (Sydney, Australia) earned the win on the mound, allowing just two hits through five innings. Freshman D’Angelo Hinojosa (Magnolia, TX) relieved Murphy to record the final six outs.

In game two, the Mustangs got on the board first, plating two runs in the top of the first inning. In response, Jimerson halved the deficit with a first inning home run for NPC.

The Nighthawks tied the game, 2-2, in the third inning on an RBI single from freshman Jacori Hicks (Baton Rouge, LA). AfterPitcher Zach Murphy releasing a pitch from the mound CBC extended its lead in the fourth, NPC erupted for a seven-run fourth inning to take the lead for good, fueled by a three-run blast from Jacori Hicks. National Park College added runs in each of the remaining innings to extend its winning streak to six games.

Jacori Hicks and sophomore Panama Mendez (Miami Beach, FL) led the Nighthawks in hitting with three apiece. Mendez, Jimerson, and Bassett homered once, while Jacori Hicks blasted two home runs in the win. Freshman Ryan Farquharson (Heath, TX) got the start for NPC, allowing two runs over three innings while striking out four. Sophomore Jacob Squires (Springfield, AR) picked up the win in relief, allowing one run on one hit with one strikeout in one inning of work.
