Nighthawks Softball Picks Up Win In Texas

The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawks softball team (3-6) went one-for-three in its weekend series, falling to Navarro College, 6-4, on Friday and 11-8 on Saturday, while downing Alvin Community College, 12-1, on Friday.

Despite taking a 4-2 NPC late into the series opener, NPC couldn’t hang on, allowing four Navarro College runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and dropping a heartbreaker to the Bulldogs.

Freshmen Baley Williams (Alma), Madalynn Thompson (Bryant) and Shelbee LeJeune (Maurice, LA) each recorded two hits for NPC in the loss. Freshman pitcher Kacey Solida (Texarkana) got the start, surrendering two runs on six hits while striking out one over five and one-third innings.

The Nighthawks rebounded against Alvin Community College on Friday afternoon, putting up seven runs in the fifth inning to seal the team’s third win of the season. Freshmen Brooke Nalley (Alvarado, TX) led NPC with three hits in the win. Freshman Jadyn Hart (Paris) earned the victory in the circle for NPC, allowing one run on five hits while striking out four over five innings.

NPC’s bats were hot Saturday against Navarro College, amassing 12 hits and scoring seven runs through six innings. Entering the bottom of the sixth inning, tied 7-7, it was déjà vu for the Nighthawks, who allowed four Bulldog runs en route to the team’s sixth loss of the season.

Freshman Julie Johnson (Vilonia) led the Nighthawks with four hits. Hart took the loss for the Nighthawks, surrendering six runs on 11 hits, while striking out one over two innings.

The Nighthawks play host to University of Arkansas Rich Mountain in a double header at Hot Springs World Class High School on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 2 and 4 p.m.
