Nighthawks Baseball Drops Two In Tennessee

National Park College Baseball

The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawks baseball team (1-6) suffered two road losses on Sunday, falling to NJCAA Division I No. 20 Dyersburg State Community College, 3-1, and dropping a 19-7 decision against Lake Michigan College.

Against Dyersburg State, NPC watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover after the Eagles knocked in a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. NPC plated its lone run in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI single from freshman C.J. Price (Little Rock), driving in freshman Darrin Bedell (Baton Rouge, LA), but could not complete the comeback.

Freshman Demias Jimerson (Malvern) led the Nighthawks with two hits in the loss. Freshman pitcher Zach Murphy (Sydney, Australia) got the start for NPC, surrendering three runs on four hits, while striking out one over three and one-third innings.

NPC matched Lake Michigan College blow for blow early in game two, taking an 8-7 lead after six innings. In the top of the seventh inning, the Red Hawks erupted on an 11-run seventh inning to steal the win from NPC.

Jimerson, sophomore Jalen Hicks (Baton Rouge, LA) and freshman Evan Shoffit (Farmington) each recorded two hits in the loss. Freshman Payton Windham (Maud, TX) got the start for NPC, allowing five runs on five hits, while striking out eight over five innings.

The Nighthawks face Arkansas Tech University in Russellville on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 12 and 2 p.m.
