The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawks baseball team (3-6) picked up two nonconference wins over Arkansas Tech University’s junior varsity team on Wednesday, downing the Wonder Boys, 16-6, in game one and picking up a 7-6 win in game two.
Tied, 2-2, entering the fourth inning, NPC blew the game wide open with an eight-run fourth inning, followed by a four-run fifth inning en route to a double-digit win in eight innings. Sophomore Cade McBride (Nashville) was clutch at the plate with runners on base, driving in four on three hits, including a two-run first inning homer.
McBride and freshmen Panama Mendez (Miami Beach, FL) and Jalen Hicks (Baton Rouge, LA) each racked up multiple hits for NPC. Freshman Myles Anderson (League City, TX) allowed three runs on seven hits while striking out four over four innings in the win.
Game two began as a back-and-forth battle for each team. Tied, 4-4, after three innings, the Nighthawks took the lead for good in the fifth inning on a two-run single from Hicks. Leading, 7-5, entering the bottom of the seventh inning, the Wonder Boys plated one run on a passed ball, but stranded the tying run in scoring position to close out the game.
Hicks and freshmen Demias Jimerson (Malvern) and C.J. Price (Little Rock) collected multiple hits in the win for NPC. Freshman Danny O’Donnell (Round Rock, TX) got the start for NPC, surrendering four runs on three hits with two strikeouts over one and two-thirds innings. Freshman pitcher Jaden Lewis (Troup, TX) picked up the win, allowing two hits while striking out four over two innings.
The Nighthawks play host to Henderson State University at Majestic Park on Monday, Feb. 21 at 12 and 2 p.m. The games will be streamed live on the Nighthawk Network.
