National Park College (NPC) student Jonah Jericho was recently awarded the 2022 New
Century Workforce Pathway Scholarship by Phi Theta Kappa (PTK). He is currently completing
his associate degree in nursing.
Jericho is the vice president of scholarship and regional officer for Alpha Beta Psi,
NPC’s chapter of PTK under advisor Dr. Rebekah Robinette.
New Century Workforce Scholars are selected based on their academic accomplishments,
leadership, activities, and how they extend their intellectual talents beyond the
classroom. Over 2,200 students were nominated from more than 1,200 college campuses
across the country. Only one New Century Workforce Scholar is selected from each state.
The program is sponsored by The Coca-Cola Foundation, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation,
Phi Theta Kappa, and the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC).
“We congratulate Jonah for receiving this prestigious scholarship, and we are honored
to partner with The Coca-Cola Foundation to recognize his outstanding achievements,”
said Phi Theta Kappa’s President and CEO Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner. “Scholarship programs
like this are integral for creating opportunities for students to succeed as they
prepare to enter the workforce and for putting college completion within reach.”
“I look at this scholarship as a job well done, an acknowledgement. I have stepped
out of my comfort zone with the different roles PTK has led me into with the research
project that was done over the summer,” stated Jericho. I have pushed myself academically
and this shows my hard work is paying off. When I didn’t think I could do it, this
serves as a pat on the back, a reminder that I can do this and be successful.”
“The first day I met Jonah I knew that he would excel in all areas,” said Robinette.
“Jonah was a stellar student in my classes, and he has served in his roles as a chapter
officer and an Oklahoma/Arkansas regional officer with excellence. Jonah is a shining
example of genuine dedication and how to serve the needs of others. He is beyond deserving
of this recognition.”
