Ledesma Earns Fall Fiction Contest Award

Student holding certificate for winning writing contest.National Park College (NPC) student Ethan Ledesma was recently selected as the 2022 Fall Fiction contest winner.

NPC’s student creative writing group, The Write Hawks, sponsors a Fall Fiction contest each year as a way to encourage student writers interested in publishing their work. The contest is judged blindly by the English faculty to ensure there is no bias. The winner receives a prize package valued at approximately $100 and a certificate.

Ledesma’s short story, "Allegheny," is a story of love and loss. It uses a mundane motif of a hubcap, something often lost, to invoke a sense of sadness. The judges said they admired the use of simple yet profound dialogue and description, along with the narrator's internal monologue.

"Sharing one's creative writing is a vulnerable experience, and therefore a courageous act of self-expression. I love contacting the winner each year and hearing their excitement as they find out they won, and am proud of our student writers for their willingness to expose their talent," said Nannette Crane-Post, English professor.
