National Park College (NPC) will celebrate Black History Month with special guests
Anthony Tidwell and the Hot Springs Dance Troupe (HSDT) Thursday, February 24 at 1
p.m. in the Student Commons Conference Room.
Tidwell is a Hot Springs native. He founded the community nonprofit Cutwell 4 Kids
and serves as the Region 8 prevention provider for Ouachita Children, Youth, and Family
Services. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Arkansas Tech University. His mission
is to build healthier communities through his work to provide resources for healthy
alternatives to negative behaviors.
The HSDT is a company of dancers that represents the Hot Springs School District.
They will perform The New Normal, a dance inspired by the overwhelming amount of traumatic and unprecedented
events that have occurred in the last couple of years. The dance explores the exhaustion
of hearing news broadcast after news broadcast. HSDT dancers researched and chose
news broadcast stories and specific portions to layer over the music composed by Zach
Hemsey, and compiled by HSDT Director, Amy Bramlett Turner. This dance brings an overwhelming
perspective of our new reality.
The event is free and open to the public.
