The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk men’s basketball team (3-1) dropped its first game of the season Saturday, falling to Connors State College, 89-76, in the Kettle.
Despite a strong defensive start from NPC in the first five minutes, Connors State College quickly found its groove, erupting on a 13-0 run over the next three-and-a-half minutes to take the lead for good. Nighthawk sophomore Miguel Miranda (Tampa, FL) kept the game within reach with hot three-point shooting, trailing, 45-38, after 20 minutes. Miranda and freshman Nakavieon White (Odessa, TX) led NPC’s offense in the second half with 14 points apiece, but struggled to stop the Cowboys in the paint, resulting in the team’s first loss of the season.
Miranda led the Nighthawks in scoring with 24 points, while White and freshman Patrick Punch (Houston, TX) added 21 and 10 points, respectively, in the win.
The Nighthawk men play host to Williams Baptist University’s junior varsity team in “The Kettle” at National Park College Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The Nighthawk women precede the men’s game with a 5:30 p.m. home tipoff against Blue Mountain College’s junior varsity team. The games will be streamed live on The Nighthawk Network.
