National Park College (NPC) welcomed Sidney Moncrief Thursday, March 31. Moncrief
is a former Arkansas Razorback basketball player who went on to play in the National
Basketball Association (NBA).
After retiring as a player, Moncrief went on to coach for the Dallas Mavericks, the
Golden State Warriors and the Milwaukee Bucks. He is a life-long entrepreneur with
over 43 years of company startup experience. He has served as a founder of over six
companies that included retail automotive to people development and consulting.
Coach Moncrief presented Living Your Best Life: Achieving Peak Performance by Understanding
the Four Components of Emotional Intelligence. He spoke on living your life based
on what is best for you as an individual. He went on to speak on the four domains
of emotional intelligence – self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and
relation management.
Moncrief stated the best piece of advice he could give is to “build healthy relationships.”
He went on to quote Mark Zuckerberg stating, “pay more attention to building great
relationships then you do anything else in college.” He explained that everything
he had done that had substance revolved around a relationship that he had built and
that he wish he would have been given that advice earlier in his life. “When in college
we sometimes just go through the motions, you meet people, everything is casual, but
be intentional and serious about those alliances that you can form.”
