National Park College (NPC) Honors student Katherine Uribes Guardado has received
a $3,000 scholarship from the Oaklawn Foundation.
Guardado is seeking her Associate of Science in Liberal Arts. Upon completion, she
plans to pursue a degree in psychology where she hopes to work with youth.
Christopher Thrasher, director of the Honors Program at NPC noted, “Katherine Guardado
is a bright and hardworking student who could probably be successful in any career
field. She could pursue fame and fortune, but Guardado has decided to devote her life
to helping the less fortunate. Guardado's commitment to public service makes her truly
extraordinary.”
“Being an honors student reminds me that I am capable of going beyond the average
student and that administrators see success in my future,” Guardado said. She noted
that the Honors Program offers help and rewards academic experiences that have helped
her prepare for transfer to a four-year university.
Because of her academic excellence, Guardado was awarded the Oaklawn Foundation Scholarship.
“The Oaklawn scholarship allows me to continue my education and guarantee achievement,”
said Guardado. “It offers $3,000 a year, which provides an opportunity for students
to earn an education, while having more time to focus on their studies.”
Guardado is thankful to NPC and the opportunity to further her education with a university
experience while feeling at home. “NPC is very beneficial for me, considering I want
to stay close to home and family. NPC is a family,” she added.
