National Park College (NPC) student Trenton Singleton received the Jessie Garret Memorial
Scholarship. Singleton is seeking his Associate of Science in Nursing degree.
The Jessie Garrett Memorial Scholarship is open to both new and returning students
with preference given to those students who do not qualify for financial aid. The
$500 award amount can be used to cover the cost of tuition, books and fees.
Upon graduation, Singleton hopes to work as a registered nurse while continuing his
education to become a nurse anesthesiologist.
Singleton’s initial attraction to NPC was the proximity to home and the affordable
cost, but said once he was here he recognized the dedication of the staff. “They always
make sure I know what classes to take and when I ask for help they are always willing
to help.”
NPC assistant professor of English Stephanie Warner said, “Trenton is such a pleasure
to have in my online Comp I class. He does not hesitate to ask questions in order
to understand a concept better. In addition, he is extremely studious, and he tends
to be one of the first students to reach out to me when there are any issues with
our [online] course shell. He is a well-deserving recipient of this scholarship.”
“I am beyond grateful to the donors of the scholarship. I had to buy four books for
classes and it helped with that plus the bit of tuition that the lottery scholarship
did not cover,” added Singleton.
