Nighthawks Softball Sweeps North Arkansas

The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk softball team earned an NJCAA Region II series win over North Arkansas College on Homecoming Saturday, with an 11-3 win in six innings in game one and a 9-1 victory in five innings in game two.

Freshman Brooke Nalley (Alvarado, TX) blasted a solo home run in the second inning to pad the lead. After the Lady Pioneers tied the game at three in the third inning, the Nighthawks regained the lead in the fourth inning on a two-RBI double from freshman Madalynn Thompson (Bryant). Thompson's hit sparked an eight-run offensive tear through the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, which included home runs from freshman Desiree Soto (Forney, TX) and sophomore Jessye Rowland (Bonnderdale) in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively, to secure the win.

Nighthawk sophomore hurler Sarah Todd (Conway) threw a complete game to earn her 10th win of the season, allowing three runs on nine hits over six innings while striking out four.

In the series finale, the Nighthawks cruised. Soto led NPC with a two-run RBI single en route to a 4-0 first-inning lead. Leading, 5-1, in the bottom of the fourth inning, sophomore Emily Cecil hit a two-run home run to pad the lead. A solo shot from Williams and an RBI single from Thompson ended the game in the fifth inning with an eight-run advantage.

NPC tallied nine hits in the win, led by two hits apiece from Soto and Williams.

In a complete game effort, Nalley earned her eighth win of the season, allowing one run on three hits over five innings while striking out four.

NPC travels to Coahoma Community College on Wednesday, Apr. 21 for a double header beginning at 3 p.m.
