Estright is a non-traditional student attending college for the first time. In his application, he explained, “I am a single father of two little girls. I also work a full-time job as a welder at Xpress Boats. It took me 20 years to finally go to college to get my degree. He was born in Hot Springs and moved frequently because his mother was in the military. He later joined the United States Air Force, but never took advantage of his educational benefits before they expired.

Lloyd’s Auto Sales owner, Lloyd Robertson surprised Estright with the announcement Monday in the NPC welding lab. “This year’s recipient has taken 20 years to get here, but I can’t think of a more deserving person than Jeffrey Estright,” he said.

“I am kind of speechless because this scholarship means a lot. It guarantees that I get to finish my education,” Estright noted following the announcement.

Estright plans to complete his second year of college at NPC and then transfer to the University of Arkansas Little Rock to pursue a business degree. He hopes to work in management for a welding company. “I try to be an example to my daughters, and every day I show them how important education is.”

Robertson said, “Lloyd’s Auto Sales considers it a privilege to once again partner with National Park College to present a deserving student with the Second Chance Scholarship. We wish him the best as he pursues his dream.”

NPC welding instructor Dennis Pickering said Estright was an exceptional student. “He actually came into the classroom pretty attentive and came into the shop area and he gave it 100%. He took this and applied it back to his job and they love him out there at Xpress Boats,” said Pickering. “If I could have a whole class like him, that would be great.”

The Lloyd's Second Chance Scholarship is available to students who need a second chance at earning an education thanks to the generosity of Lloyd's Auto Sales and National Park College. The scholarship covers full tuition and fees for two years.
