The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawks men’s and women’s soccer teams fell to
Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO A&M) on the road Sunday, with the women falling
to the Lady Norse, 6-0, and the men dropping a 4-1 decision.
In women’s action, NPC (1-10) began the game with aggressive offense and defensive
fronts, attempting two shots in the game’s first six minutes while defending two shots
on goal from the Lady Norse. NEO A&M took the lead at the 20-minute mark and added
two additional goals over the next six minutes to build a 3-0 first half lead that
would hold into the halftime break. In the second half, NEO A&M kept its foot on the
gas, adding three goals over the final 45 minutes, while holding the Nighthawks to
two shots, to take the regular-season sweep.
NPC freshman goalkeeper Brooklyn Mize (Godley, TX) converted 16 saves in the loss,
and continues to lead the NJCAA Region II with 160 saves this season.
In men’s action, NPC (0-8) and NEO A&M engaged in a defensive battle for most of the
first half, with each team holding shot attempts at bay. The Golden Norse finally
broke the stalemate, taking a 1-0 lead that would hold into halftime. In the second
half, NEO A&M took control, knocking in three goals to extend the lead. NPC freshman
Yael Sandoval (Kaufman, TX) lit up the scoreboard with a goal in the 64th minute,
but the Nighthawks were unable to complete the comeback.
NPC freshmen goalkeepers Paulino Ruiz (Tyler, TX) and Xavier Marquez (El Paso, TX)
converted two and three saves, respectively, while Sandoval scored the lone goal in
the loss.
The Nighthawk men and women face Eastern Oklahoma State on Sunday, Oct. 10 in Wilburton,
