Nighthawks Sweep North Arkansas
The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawks softball team picked up two NJCAA Region II wins at North Arkansas College Monday, earning a 10-5 win in game one while defeating the Lady Pioneers, 11-0, in five innings in game two.
NPC broke game one open early, scoring seven total runs across the first two innings. After allowing three North Arkansas runs in the third inning, the Nighthawks answered back with three runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning. The Lady Pioneers added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, but could not mount a comeback.
The Nighthawks tallied 12 hits in the win. Freshman Baley Williams (Alma) went 3-for-4 at the plate, driving in one run, while scoring three runs. Freshmen Madalynn Thompson (Bryant), Madeline Bruce (Conway) and Desiree Soto (Forney, TX) all contributed multiple hits in the victory. NPC also stole 10 total bases in the win. Freshman hurler Brooke Nalley (Alvarado, TX) went the distance in the circle, allowing five runs on six hits, while striking out one.
In game two, NPC spread out its scoring across five innings with one run in the first and two runs in the second and third. The Nighthawks padded their lead in the fourth inning, plating five runs, before adding an 11th run in the top of the fifth inning. Nighthawk sophomore pitcher Sarah Todd (Conway) and freshman pitcher Ruby Hause (Bauxite) combined for a two-hit shutout in the win. Todd picked up her seventh win of the season, allowing one hit in three innings.
NPC tallied 12 hits in the game. Thompson went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored. Williams and sophomores Jessye Rowland (Bonnerdale) and Emily Cecil (Conway) finished 2-for-3 in the win.
Nighthawks softball plays at Murray State College on Saturday, Mar. 27 for an NJCAA Region II double header beginning at 1 p.m.
