Nighthawks Fall In Oklahoma

NPC Soccer

The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawks women’s and men’s soccer teams were defeated by Eastern Oklahoma State College on the road Sunday, with the women falling, 5-0, and the men dropping a 3-0 decision.

In women’s action, the Nighthawks (2-11) blocked four shot attempts within the first 10 minutes to stop an aggressive start from the Mountaineers. Eastern Oklahoma State College lit up the scoreboard with an 11th-minute score en route to a four-goal first half. NPC struggled to respond on offense and was held without a shot attempt throughout the first 45 minutes of action.

Trailing, 4-0, at halftime, the Mountaineers pushed its fifth and final goal across at the 55-minute mark. The Nighthawks’ offensive woes continued throughout the period, allowing the Mountaineers to secure the regular season sweep.

NPC freshmen goalkeepers Brooklyn Mize (Godley, TX) and Yessenia Vargas (Houston, TX) converted eight and four saves, respectively, in the loss. Mize continues to lead the NJCAA Region II with 168 saves this season.

In a physical men’s contest, three Mountaineers goals set the pace for Eastern Oklahoma State College early, with NPC (0-9) struggling to close the gap, offensively. The Nighthawks saved five shots in the second half, but were held without a shot attempt in the second half in the team’s second loss to the Mountaineers this season.

NPC freshman goalkeeper Xavier Marquez (El Paso, TX) converted seven saves in the loss.

The Nighthawk men and women face Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa on Thursday, Oct. 14 in Tonkawa, OK. The women kick off at 1 p.m. with the men following at 3 p.m.
