National Park College (NPC) registered nursing (RN) student Erin Oseguera received
the Vivienne Rose Iverson Nursing Scholarship this semester. The award was made possible
thanks to the generosity of Peter van den Heuvel in honor of his granddaughter Vivienne
Rose Iverson. It covers full tuition and fees.
Oseguera is a single mother of two teenage boys. She has a passion for serving the
elderly and plans to pursue a career in geriatric nursing. “I am in love with older
people, the souls, the wisdom that they have,” she said. She explained that she was
first inspired to consider nursing while caring for her grandmother and working in
the home health care industry. She shared the struggle of watching her grandmother
decline and the experience she and her family went through. “You will see very strong
women break…and I decided it was a part of life that you have to respect. We are all
born and we all die.”
“A lot of people just focus on the patient and they don’t see the bigger picture and
I felt like it was my calling to help, not just the patient, but the families because
it is a whole network. You have to work together and as a unit to help each other,”
said Oseguera.
Oseguera chose NPC because of the Nursing program’s strong reputation and convenience
to home. When she was notified about the award, she said she felt it was confirmation
that she was on the right path. “I think that when I received it, it was like God
telling me to keep going. It was like, ‘You are where I want you.’”
“Thank you so much to the donors. I know that they know that we appreciate it, but
when we graduate you are going to be the reason why,” added Oseguera.
