National Park College (NPC) Recycling and Sustainability Committee (RSC) will host a series of Earth Week events April 19-22, including guest speakers, a bottle cap mosaic project, and a campus trash bash.
Guest speakers’ presentations will be held April 19-21 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. in Student Commons room 267 (CO-267) and also via zoom. Registration is required. Door prizes will be available for both in-person and virtual attendees.
Monday, April 19, Interpretive Ranger at Ouachita Lake State Park, Emily Stubblefield will present, “Our Impact on Arkansas' Natural Resources.”
Tuesday, April 20, Hot Springs Solid Waste Director, Randy Atkinson will discuss the City of Hot Springs Recycling Program. City Directors Erin Holliday (District 1) and Steve Trusty (District 6) will share about the City of Hot Springs Green Initiatives.
Wednesday, April 21, Virco Manufacturing Corporation (Conway Division) Facilities Manager and board member for the Arkansas Recycling Coalition, Don Curran will share about Virco’s repurposing of school furniture.
Wednesday, April 21, Assistant Professor of Art, Lana Taliaferro will guide a recycled bottle cap mosaic art project. Participants can take part by gluing the bottle caps on the piece at the Quad April 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The completed art piece will be displayed in the Makerspace on the first floor of the Gerald Fisher building.
Thursday, April 22 a Trash Bash will be held from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Participants will meet on the Quad for supplies and help pick up trash around campus. Free “Keep Arkansas Beautiful” t-shirts will be available while supplies last.
The events are free and open to the public. Please note, social distancing may limit capacity for indoor events.
