The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawks men’s and women’s cross-country teams competed
in the Carl Albert State College XC Invitational, hosted by Carl Albert State College
on Thursday, with the men’s team taking a first-place finish in the event.
In the men’s 8K race, NPC freshman Matthew Farias (Miami, FL) led the Nighthawks with
a 35:00 finish for 4th place out of 19 runners. Runners Payton Hayes (Hot Springs)
and John Dykes (Pearcy) finished in 7th and 8th place, respectively, with times of
35:42 and 35:56, while runners Caiden Ingram (Hot Springs) and Ashton Dorathy (Hot
Springs) took 11th and 12th place, respectively, with times of 38:24 and 38:52.
NPC’s combined men’s results led to top honors on the podium, defeating runners-up
Connors State College by six points.
In the women’s 5K race, NPC sophomore Meighan Mears (Hot Springs) led the Nighthawks
with a time of 24:40 for a 3rd-place finish out of 18 runners. Freshman Elizabeth
Dearyan (Hot Springs) finished in 11th place with a time of 27:17, while sophomore
Kya Schmidt (Greenwood) and freshman Olivia Caraway (Hot Springs) tallied times of
27:36 and 29:20 for 12th and 14th place, respectively.
The Nighthawk men and women compete in the NJCAA Region II Championship on Saturday,
Oct. 30 in Mena. The women start at 9 a.m. with the men following afterward.
