The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawks baseball team picked up its first two postseason wins in school history, downing Hesston College, 10-8, on Thursday and defeating Murray State College, 2-0, on Sunday in the NJCAA Region II Plains District Tournament.
In Thursday’s play-in round, NPC leaned on its nation-best home run total to shine early against Hesston College. Freshmen Demias Jimerson (Malvern) and Tristen Jamison (Nashville) each went yard in the bottom of the first inning to set the pace. Jimerson added homers in the third and sixth innings to pad the lead, while Jamison chipped in an insurance blast in the eighth inning to stave off a late Hesston College comeback attempt.
Sophomore pitcher Cole Rodriguez (Cypress, TX) picked up the win for the Nighthawks, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out 10 over seven innings. Sophomore Robby Caro (Georgetown, TX) and freshman Kenley Anderson (Horatio) entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. NPC notched 11 hits on the day, including five home runs, with Jamison and Jimerson each collecting three hits in the win.
In Sunday’s round one game versus Murray State College, a first-inning two-run home run from Jimerson proved to be all NPC needed to reach the finish line in the 2-0 victory. Caro went seven innings, allowing zero runs on three hits and striking out four. Jamison and freshman Danny O’Donnell (Leander, TX) entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. NPC tallied seven hits in the game, with Jimerson finishing 3-for-4 at the plate.
NPC continues tournament play today at 4 p.m. versus Northern Oklahoma College-Enid.
The game will be streamed live by Northern Oklahoma College Enid Athletics Streaming.
