Curry Receives Life Saver Award
NPC Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) student, William Curry received LifeNet Arkansas’
Life Saver Award Wednesday. Klay Hall, director of operations for LifeNet Arkansas
presented Curry with the award. Curry will graduate in August with his EMT certificate.
The LifeNet Life Saver Award recognizes people who have saved a life, regardless of
the risk, through the application of first-aid knowledge and skills.
LifeNet employee Terry Childers nominated Curry for the award. Childers responded
to a traumatic injury call March 19, 2021, at the Dodge store of Hot Springs. Curry’s
co-worker, Heather Najera, suffered a life-threatening bleed. Using his belt, Curry
made a tourniquet to control the bleed.
Childers stated, “Curry’s quick actions had saved the life of his co-worker. There
is no doubt Curry’s intervention saved the life of his co-worker.
Hall said, “There was never a doubt where he [Curry] had to consider what needed to
be done. He used his gut instinct and took action and saved a life.”
Najera stated, “He definitely saved my life. I wouldn’t be standing here if it wasn’t
for him.”
EMT program director Josh Boyett stated, “Will is a very humble kid, he’s quiet, but
he is very receptive to what we teach. He can take everything in and then, obviously,
display that in his abilities. He does an excellent job of working diligently on completing
all of his skills and coursework. He is really excelling through this program. He’s
an excellent kid and should be set up to be an excellent EMT for this community.”
