National Park College (NPC) graduate First Sergeant (1SG) Russell C. Carmack, retired,
joined the Arkansas Army National Guard and served with the 39 Infantry Brigade, Company
C 1/153 Infantry Regiments in Mena and Dequeen, Arkansas. 1SG Carmack obtained his
Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice from Garland County Community College,
now National Park College in 1997.
1SG Carmack organized the Company’s first reunion October 21-23, 2021 at Mountain
Harbor Resort and Spa on Lake Ouachita.
During his time with the National Guard, Carmack spent five tours overseas with three
of those training in Honduras, Panama and England. He then spent a nine-month deployment
in Kuwait during Operation Southern Watch in 1999-2000.
In 2003, The Company was assigned to the 3rd “Greywolf” Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry
Division, 9th Battalion in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. The task force conducted
over 2,200 combat patrols and 42 Task Force Level Operations against enemy insurgents
in Baghdad, Iraq. 1SG Carmack retired in 2005 after returning from deployment. He
served his country for 23 years.
In 2017, after 33 years of service, Carmack retired from Montgomery County Sheriff’s
Office and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
