National Park College (NPC) Library Systems Administrator Jennifer Evans has retired
after 25 years at NPC. President Dr. Hogan presented Evans with a plaque celebrating
her service and the library hosted a socially distanced retirement party.
Evans attended Garland County Community College (GCCC) as a first-generation college
student and a single mother. Pastor Robert Berry and Elaine Berry, founders of The
Potter’s Clay, told her about the Single Parent/Displaced Homemaker program offered
at GCCC. It was during that program she learned about Pell Grants and scholarships
that allowed her to further her education. Upon graduation, Evens was offered a position
at GCCC.
Though she had not planned to take an early retirement, Evans was presented with an
opportunity to reestablish her music career. She has been part of the music scene
since she was 18 and has a love for singing and is looking forward to getting back
onstage when possible.
“In my spare time, I will be learning to play new instruments, writing songs and creating
textile art; I will also continue knitting special things to donate to my church and
the NPC KnitHawks, and look forward to returning to the daily practice of Tai Chi,”
stated Evans.
Though officially retired, Evans will be continuing work in the library on a part-time
basis.
“To all my NPC friends and colleagues: thanks for 25 awesome years,” said Evans.
