Dr. Chuck Burke, health science faculty, has earned the Neonatal / Pediatric Care
Specialty (NPS) credential.
The NPS examination objectively measures the knowledge and skills of respiratory therapists
working in this specialty area. It goes above and beyond general respiratory care
activities to focus specifically on competencies that are unique to neonatal/pediatric
respiratory care.
Burke finished a 20-hour review class before completing the exam. The exam covered
assessment, diagnosis and treatment of diseases specific to neonatal and pediatric
patients. “Studying the information improves my ability to care for patients. It is
also important that the students know that their instructor works to keep current
in patient care practice,” said Burke.
“Obtaining the NPS credential signifies striving to be the best we can be. The best
for our students and the best for our patients. As a faculty member, it demonstrates
a continued effort to learn and apply the latest care practices so that the students
know they are getting state-of-the-art instruction. As a patient care provider, patients
are confident the care they receive is also state-of-the-art,” Burke noted.
