National Park College (NPC) student Thia Armstrong was recently awarded the Bill Ogden
Memorial scholarship. She is completing her Associate of Science degree in Education
with a focus on middle-level education in history and English.
Armstrong currently works for the Lake Hamilton School District as a paraprofessional.
While working in this capacity, Armstrong was motivated to pursue a teaching degree.
Armstrong said she heard wonderful things about NPC and enjoys that it is close to
her home. “The flexibility is phenomenal. I am a single mom and full-time employee
so the flexibility [of classes] helps,” said Armstrong.
After graduation, Armstrong plans to attend Henderson State University. She is hopeful
she can continue her employment at Lake Hamilton School District.
“The scholarship means a lot. I had previously gone to college when I was younger
so much of my financial aid is gone. This helps offset some of the costs. I am grateful
for the opportunity,” Armstrong added.
