Nighthawks Soar Over Pioneers

The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk men’s basketball picked up its second win in three days Thursday night, defeating Crowley’s Ridge College’s junior varsity team, 135-74.

Nighthawk freshman Joe Ramey (El Dorado) started the action with seven consecutive points, igniting a 23-4 NPC run over the game’s first six minutes. Freshmen Terry Clardy Jr. (Conway) and Kamryn Vick (Little Rock) added fuel to the fire, contributing 12 and 10 points, respectively, en route to a 68-33 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Nighthawks continued their offensive assault, fueled by 16- and 14- point efforts from sophomore DJ Martin (Pine Bluff) and Ramey, pushing NPC to a 61-point victory.

Ramey led the Nighthawks in scoring with 35 points. Martin and sophomore Bradey Woodall (Manila) added 20 and 16 points, respectively. Freshmen Tyler Tolliver (Mayflower) and Clardy Jr. contributed 14 points apiece, while Vick (Little Rock) added 10 points in the win.

“Overall, I was really proud of the way our young men came out, showed good energy early and got on top,” head coach Jason Hudnell said. “We shared the basketball well. We had a lot of individuals looking for their teammates. We made strides in coming together as a team. We had a lot of guys looking to make that extra pass and find their open man and I was proud of their effort.”

The Nighthawk men and women travel to Southern Arkansas University Tech Saturday to take on the Rockets. The Nighthawk women will tip off at 5 p.m. with the Nighthawk men playing at 7 p.m.

In recognition of Arvest Bank’s sponsorship of Nighthawk Athletics, NPC will celebrate Arvest Bank Night Tuesday, Jan. 28 beginning at 5 p.m. at “The Kettle.” The Nighthawks will play host to Arkansas Baptist College with the women playing at 5 p.m. and the men following at 7 p.m.
