Nighthawks Take Down Mustangs
The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk men’s basketball team bounced back into
the win column Tuesday night, defeating Central Baptist College’s junior varsity team,
125-88 at “The Kettle” at National Park College in Hot Springs.
Beginning with a 14-2 run, the Nighthawks (8-6) caught fire early, capitalizing on
cold Mustang shooting to boost their lead to 20 points, 26-6, with 12:42 remaining
in the first half. Led by 22 and 10 first-half points from freshman Joe Ramey (El
Dorado) and sophomore David Jagers (Mayflower), respectively,The Nighthawks cruised
to a comfortable 67-36 lead at halftime.
NPC enjoyed a fruitful second half from beyond the arc, with freshman Lane Kersey
(Lake Hamilton) and sophomore Bradey Woodall (Manila) combining for eight treys to
energize the crowd and push the Nighthawks to victory.
Ramey led the Nighthawks in scoring with 26 points, while Kersey and Woodall added
21 and 17 points, respectively. Jagers scored 14 points, sophomore DJ Martin (Pine
Bluff) added 13, while freshman Terry Clardy Jr. (Conway) amassed 10 points in the
win.
“I appreciated the energy that we came out with tonight,” head coach Jason Hudnell
said. “I thought we played hard. We’re really trying to work on some different looks,
defensively, to see what we can do. We’re trying to work on some things to see how
we can guard better and rebound better. We have some big games coming up and we want
to make sure that we have everyone healthy for those.”
The Nighthawk men travel to Crowley’s Ridge College Thursday, Jan. 23 to take on
the Pioneers’ junior varsity team. XZero Sports will stream the game live at www.xzerosports.com at 5 p.m. The Nighthawk women face SAU Tech Saturday, Jan. 25 in Camden at 5 p.m.
