The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk men’s basketball team closed out its 2019-2020
regular season with a win Monday, defeating Central Baptist College’s junior varsity
team, 117-105.
Before the game, NPC honored its six nighthawk sophomores—David Jagers (Mayflower),
Desmond McDonald (Hope), Bradey Woodall (Manila), Jeremiah Brantley (Belton, MO),
Reyhan Cobb (Decatur, GA) and KaJuan Christon (Hot Springs)—for their outstanding
contributions to Nighthawks basketball.
With an 8-0 start out of the gate, NPC caught fire early, taking advantage of open
shots and Mustangs turnovers to gain momentum. With 13:49 remaining in the half, a
layup from Woodall boosted NPC to a double-digit lead, 18-7. Behind 10 first-half
points, Christon dominated in the paint early, while freshman Terry Clardy Jr. (Conway)
shined from beyond the arc for three first-half treys to boost NPC to a 55-39 halftime
lead.
Central Baptist College began the second half with an offensive spark, cutting a
16-point lead down to seven points, 63-56, with 15:29 remaining. Led by 15- and 10-point
efforts from Woodall and Brantley, NPC answered back, challenging defenders in the
paint to rebuild its lead en route to NPC’s 16th victory of the season.
Woodall led the Nighthawks in scoring with 24 points. Christon added 19 points, while
Cobb, Clardy Jr., Jagers and Brantley amassed 14, 13, 12 and 11 points, respectively, in the win.
“I’m really proud of our sophomores,” head coach Jason Hudnell said. “Desmond McDonald
came in and dominated the boards. Bradey Woodall hit some big corner threes. David
Jagers showed he can really score down low on the post. Reyhan, Jeremiah and KaJuan
have been a huge addition to who we are and the wins we have garnered this year. I’m
glad we could send out our sophomores in the right way here in the Kettle.”
As the number four seed in the upcoming NJCAA Region II Division II basketball tournament,
the Nighthawk men will face top-seeded ASU Mid-South in the semifinals on Sunday,
Mar. 1 at 5 p.m. at Harding University in Searcy. The Nighthawk women have earned
the number two seed in the tournament and will face third seed SAU Tech in the semifinals
on Sunday, Mar. 1 at 3 p.m. The games will be streamed live at www.xzerosports.com.
