National Park College (NPC) hosted an open house for the new Veterans Center Monday.
The space is located on the second floor of the new Student Commons building.
NPC Student Government Association (SGA) provided coffee and donuts for the event
and Student Services provided lunch to attendees. Veteran support programs and community
organizations displayed information tables for visitors.
The Malvern High School Army ROTC color guard performed the presentation of colors.
The national anthem was performed by Sonya Chittum and military bugler Ross Rumore
(Marine Corps) played each military branch’s hymn.
Military Service Scholarship recipients were recognized. The annual scholarship is
provided by Bob and June Luciew of Hot Springs Village. Six recipients were selected
this year, including Steven Eberly, who is working on a Technical Certificate in Industrial
Technology; Melody Hemberger, working on an Associate of Applied Science in Health
Information Technology; Josh Mills, working on an Associate Degree in Middle Level
Education; Kolt Riggan, working on an Associate of Applied Science in Paramedic; Andrea
Strong, working on an Associate of Liberal Arts and Sciences in Addiction Studies;
and Ron Teague, working on an Associate of Applied Science in Digital and Media Arts.
Veterans coordinator, Nathan Looper (Marine Corps) noted the NPC Veterans Center
has served more than 100 veterans and dependents this year. He said, “I can’t say
how proud I am of our students and seeing them move on and contribute to the community
and to this school.”
