National Park College (NPC) announced the Van Davis Memorial 5K will be moving to
the NPC campus in February. This year’s event will be held February 15.
Vice President for External Affairs, Darla Thurber made the announcement Tuesday.
“One of the first 5Ks Dr. Davis completed was right here on the National Park College
campus. Today, I’m pleased to announce that we are bringing it home. The 8th Annual
Van Davis Memorial 5K will be held here on the campus of National Park College,” she
said. Past races have been held at Whittington Park downtown Hot Springs.
The Van Davis Memorial 5K is an annual event that began in 2013 in honor of Dr. Van
Davis, an esteemed member of the NPC faculty and Chair of the Social Sciences Division.
Davis taught for nearly 38 years, inspiring students to use their drive, passion,
humor and intellect to succeed at earning college degrees.
To date, the Van Davis scholarship endowment has surpassed $50,000. Beginning last
year, proceeds from the race began funding additional student success initiatives,
impacting even more students in Dr. Davis’ memory.
Race registration is open now. More information about the race can be found at np.edu/VanDavis5K.
