Nighthawk Men Thump Pioneers
The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk men’s basketball team defeated Crowley’s
Ridge College’s junior varsity team, 147-69, Tuesday at “The Kettle” in Hot Springs.
Before the game, NPC recognized the Oaklawn Foundation for its $275,000 grant to improve the Nighthawk facilities with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and renaming the gymnasium to Oaklawn Foundation Gymnasium.
Behind sophomore Reyhan Cobb (Decatur, Ga.) and freshman Jakilyn Kaiser (Conway), the Nighthawks (2-4) surged to a 15-0 lead in the game’s first four minutes, taking advantage of Pioneer turnovers and cold shooting to gain a lead that would never waiver. Freshman Joe Ramey (El Dorado) paced NPC with 23 first-half points en route to a 72-30 lead at the break.
In the second half, the Nighthawks continued to apply pressure, led by a 16-point half from freshman Lane Kersey (Lake Hamilton) and dominant rebounding from Cobb and sophomore Desmond McDonald (Hope), leading NPC to both their largest margin of victory and most points scored in Nighthawks history.
Ramey led all scorers with 31 points in the win. Cobb added 25 points, while Kersey, Kaiser and McDonald scored 21, 16 and 11 points, respectively.
National Park College returns to action Friday, Nov. 22 at Williams Baptist University in Walnut Ridge. The Nighthawk women tip off at 5:00 p.m. with the men playing at 7:00 p.m.
