The National Park College Nighthawk men’s basketball team dropped a heartbreaker against ASU Mid-South Thursday, falling to the Greyhounds, 78-75, at “The Kettle” in Hot Springs.

Led by 10- and seven-point efforts from freshman Patrick Greene (Little Rock Mills) and KJ Corder (Hot Springs), the Nighthawks took a 37-32 lead into halftime against one of its conference rivals.

In the second half, the Nighthawks’ hot streak continued, building a lead as large as 14 points. However, a surge from ASU Mid-South beyond the three-point line, combined with Nighthawk foul trouble helped the Greyhounds pull back into the lead with eight minutes remaining. With 10 seconds remaining and the Nighthawks down by six points, Corder pulled National Park College within three points with a trey. On the ensuing inbound ball, a Greyhounds turnover gave the Nighthawks a chance at a game-tying final shot, but Corder’s three-pointer missed its mark, resulting in the team’s third loss of the season.

Greene led the Nighthawks in scoring with 18 points. Corder added 16 points, while freshman David Jagers (Mayflower) and sophomore Braylon Steen (Bryant) amassed 13 and 10 points, respectively, in the loss.

The Nighthawk men play host to Grit Sports Academy Tuesday, January 29 at 7 p.m. at “The Kettle” at National Park College in Hot Springs. XZero Sports will stream the game live at www.xzerosports.com. The Nighthawk women return to action Feb. 2 for homecoming against North Arkansas College.
