The National Park College Nighthawk men’s basketball team bounced back into the win
column Monday, defeating East Texas Baptist University, 103-77.
After taking a comfortable lead early, National Park College (12-4) flexed its deep
bench in the first half, led by great performances from sophomore Preston Crowder
(Arkadelphia) and freshman Dayten Wishon (Gravette). The Nighthawks capitalized on
Tiger foul trouble, hitting 11-of-11 free throws in the frame to pace the home team
to a 49-34 halftime lead.
After scoring just two points in the first half, freshman DJ Martin (Pine Bluff)
came alive after the break, exploding for 16 points, including three crowd-energizing
dunks. Big men Crowder and freshman Desmond McDonald (Hope) dominated down low, controlling
the rebound battle and adding big baskets to push the Nighthawks to their second victory
over the Tigers this season.
Martin led the Nighthawks in scoring with 18 points. Crowder finished with 16 points
while sophomore Logan Willett (Faith Prep Academy), McDonald and freshman Chandler
Roland (Perryville) added 14, 12 and 10 points, respectively, in the win.
National Park College returns to action Wednesday as the Nighthawk women celebrate
sophomore night against Crowder College at 5 p.m. with the men tipping off at 7 p.m.
