The National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk men’s basketball team extended its winning streak to three games Monday, beating East Texas Baptist University’s developmental team, 100-86.
Led by freshmen Terry Clardy Jr. (Conway) and Joe Ramey (El Dorado), NPC (4-4) opened with a commanding 15-4 lead within the game’s first six minutes, taking advantage of cold shooting and turnovers by the Tigers. Late in the first half, however, East Texas Baptist University attempted a brief comeback with 6:18 remaining in the first half, pulling within five points, 32-27.
Leading, 54-37, at the break, the Nighthawks erupted in the second half, leading by as many as 21 points behind strong efforts from sophomores David Jagers (Mayflower) and Reyhan Cobb (Decatur, Ga.). However, hot three-point shooting would fuel one more Tiger comeback, pulling within six points over the game’s final 90 seconds. Freshman Kamryn Vick (Little Rock) iced the Tigers with key free throws to pad the lead and seal the win.
Clardy Jr. led the Nighthawks in scoring with 25 points. Cobb added 17 points with 11 rebounds, while Jagers, Vick and Ramey added 15, 14 and 13 points, respectively.
The Nighthawk men return home Thursday, Dec. 5 to play host to South Arkansas Community College. XZero Sports will stream the game live at www.xzerosports.com. The Nighthawk women (3-3) play host to Arlington Baptist Friday Dec. 6 at 6:00 p.m.
