Nighthawk Men Edge Hendrix

The National Park College Nighthawk men’s basketball team picked up its 16th win of the season in dramatic fashion Monday, defeating Hendrix College on the road, 85-80.

David Jagers, NPC Nighthawk, going up against Hendrix.Just five days after defeating the Warriors, 109-75, the Nighthawks (16-4) looked well on their way to another lopsided victory in the first half, building a 21-point lead behind nine-point performances from sophomore KJ Corder (Hot Springs) and freshman DJ Martin (Pine Bluff). Over the final three minutes of the first half, however, the Warriors closed the gap on a 14-0 run, cutting the Nighthawk lead down to just seven points—47-40—at halftime.

Early in the second half, Hendrix continued its hot streak, exploding for a 17-8 run to regain the lead. Behind a 12-point effort from freshman David Jagers (Mayflower) and 10 more points from Willett, however, the Nighthawks stopped the bleeding, stealing the lead back and hanging on to edge the Warriors for the second time this season.

Willett led the Nighthawks in scoring with 18 points. Jagers added 17 points, while Martin and sophomore KJ Corder (Hot Springs) picked up 13 and 11 points, respectively, in the win

. The Nighthawk men travel to West Memphis Thursday to take on ASU Mid-South with a 6 p.m. tipoff. XZero Sports will stream the game live at www.xzerosports.com. The Nighthawk women return to action Saturday, Feb. 16 on the road at Rhema Bible Training College in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
