NPC Student Selected For Coca-Cola Leaders Of Promise Scholarship
National Park College (NPC) student Marie Linden-Cox has been selected as one of 207
Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) members named to the list of 2019 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise
Scholars. The award comes with a $1,000 scholarship.
Linden-Cox grew up in Germany and lived there until she graduated high school. She
described the application process for this scholarship as competitive and rigorous.
She said she was honored to be selected to such a prestigious award. “I was really
surprised and grateful too because I have had to pay for all of my education out of
pocket because I didn’t go to high school in America.”
Linden-Cox’s husband was stationed in Germany and they married soon after she graduated
high school. They spent the next two years on active duty in New Mexico. “It was fun,
but with the military there are so many unexpected moves, so I never had the chance
to start college.” When they moved to Arkansas in the summer of 2017, Linden-Cox decided
it was time to begin her degree.
She said she and her husband enjoy living in Hot Springs. “We like to do outdoor
stuff, going to the lake, hiking, kayaking and stuff like that.” They recently purchased
a home and plan to stay in the area. She will begin the Radiologic Technology program
this fall and plans to eventually complete her bachelor’s degree in Hospital Administration.
The Leaders of Promise Scholarship is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation.
The program helps new PTK members defray educational expenses while enrolled in associate
degree programs. Scholars are encouraged to assume leadership roles by participating
in PTK programs and are selected based on scholastic achievement, community service,
and leadership potential. Nearly 900 applications were received. Twenty-five of these
scholarships are earmarked for PTK members who are active personnel or veterans of
the U.S. Military.
