NPC Confers 18 New Degrees And Certificates At Commencement
National Park College (NPC) conferred 18 new degrees and certificates and announced
a five percent increase in credentials earned by graduates this year. The College
held spring commencement ceremonies at Bank OZK Arena Saturday, May 11.
NPC students earned 687 degrees and certificates 
during the 2018-2019 academic year, compared to 651 in 2017-2018. The College had
a total of 410 graduates for fall and spring semesters. Summer graduates will not
be conferred until August and are not included in these counts.
Several new degrees were conferred for the first time this year, including 15 new
transfer degrees. New degrees included the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Law
Enforcement Administration, Associate of Arts (AA) in Organizational Leadership, Associate
of Science (AS) in Education – Middle Level Language Arts/Math, AS in Education –
Middle Level Language Arts/Science, AS in Education – Middle Level Language Arts/Social
Studies, AS in Education – Middle Level Math/Social Studies, AS in Education – Middle
Level Science/Social Studies, Associate of Science in Liberal Arts & Sciences (ASLAS)
– Addiction Studies, ASLAS – Art Education, ASLAS – Digital Art & Design, ASLAS –
Geography, ASLAS – History, ASLAS – Nutrition, ASLAS – Psychology, ASLAS – Studio
Art, Certificate of Proficiency (CP) in Basic Business Law, CP in Basic Business Management,
and CP in Basic Business Principles.
Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Wade Derden said, “We have worked hard to
build a culture of transfer on our campus and to create seamless pathways for students
to complete a bachelor’s degree. It was rewarding to see our efforts culminate in
these students’ success.”

Robinette was selected to receive the Thomas and Rachel Spencer Spirit Award announced
during the commencement ceremony. Alan was involved in Phi Theta Kappa, the NPC choir,
and was a founding member of the Write Hawks. He began his Interdisciplinary Studies
Degree at Henderson State University in January and plans to become a librarian. When
asked what NPC means to him, Alan said, “At NPC, I found my purpose, my foundation,
and my trajectory – I found myself. It hasn’t been easy, but it has been so much more
than for what I bargained. And I know the best is yet to come.”
“This year’s commencement ceremony was special because we awarded a number of new
degrees, we saw our first class of honors graduates, and our first class of athletes
graduated. We have made strategic investments in programs aimed at increasing degree
attainment and it is working. These decisions are helping more students earn a credential
so they can improve the quality of life for their families and contribute to our local
economy as they join the workforce and give back to the community,” said NPC President,
Dr. John Hogan.
