Cory Morris, Student Of The Month
Cory Morris has been selected by the Math and Science Department as student of the
month. He is an engineering major and extremely active on campus. He currently serves
as the vice president of scholarship for Phi Theta Kappa, the outgoing vice president
for the Cultural Diversity Awareness Club, an at-large representative for Student
Government, chapter president of the American Chemistry Society, and is in the Honors
Program.
He has also teamed up with the Makerclub to develop and implement more eco-friendly
practices on campus and in the community. “Engineering has never been about one person;
it has to account for the greater good. For that, it takes more than one person. That
is the most exciting part about this field: the opportunity to be a part of something
greater than myself,” said Morris.
Cory was among the first nontraditional students to be admitted into the Honors Program
at NPC. He is now in his second year and working on a capstone project in collaboration
with the Innovative Technology Center (ITC) to gain exposure to the grant writing
process.
Morris is a tireless worker, always volunteering to help and give of himself and
his time. He is a devoted husband and father. Through the Academic Success Center,
where he works three days a week, he is able to balance homework with home life. He
also volunteers at NPC’s food pantry. Though he is not entirely clear on where he
will transfer, he does “hope to take a few additional classes at NPC as they become
available,” stated Morris.
