National Park College welcomes Alexandra Barnard as the new Biology instructor.
Barnard received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Colorado State University,
a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Metropolitan State University of Denver, and
her PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Oklahoma in 2018,
where she studied how new species form using damselflies. She taught at Oklahoma City
Community College and conducted postdoctoral research with the Oklahoma Biological
Survey.
Barnard enjoys hiking, road and mountain biking, swimming, and gardening. She also
likes to make jewelry from used bicycle parts.
“The National Park College community has been so welcoming,” she said. “I came to
NPC because I felt a camaraderie with the faculty and staff I met during the interview
process and I was intrigued by all the growth occurring at the College. I’m also impressed
with Hot Springs’ natural surroundings. I’m originally from Colorado, so I need outdoor
recreation nearby.”
