National Park College (NPC) Student Government Association participated in a statewide
student leadership conference Tuesday at the Arkansas State Capitol.
Students attended sessions on leadership, the legislative process, and on specific
issues currently under consideration by the state legislature.
Governor Hutchinson expressed his admiration for the excellent work done at NPC. In
response to a student question on the future of education in the state, Governor Hutchinson
expressed his belief that community colleges, like National Park, would continue to
serve a vital two-fold function as they provided both vocational training opportunities
and a low cost path to advanced degrees.

for a private conversation during their visit to the State Capitol.
Students toured the Treasurer’s Office, the Supreme Court, the House of Representatives,
and the Senate. Senator Alan Clark invited the group to the senate floor and his personal
office. Student Tyler Draper expressed interest in running for office someday and
Senator Clark encouraged him to pursue his dream stating, "All it takes is a filing
fee and the courage to try."
