Nighthawks Fall To ASU MidSouth
National Park College (NPC) Nighthawk men and women’s basketball teams fell to the Arkansas State University (ASU) MidSouth Greyhounds Thursday.
The women’s team was down by 24 at the half and the Greyhounds were able to maintain their momentum during the third quarter, which ended at 66-35. The women were not able to make up the gap, but they held the Greyhounds to end the game with an 87-55 final score.
Leading scorer for the women was Bailey Womack (25) of Fountain Lake with 24 points, three rebounds, one assist and a steal. Faith Bratton (33) of Jessieville scored 14 points, three rebounds and one assist. Anna Ledbetter (50) of Lake Hamilton scored eight points and had five assists.
The men’s team fought a competitive match against the ranked Greyhound team. They ended the first half at 50-43 and held MidSouth to a seven-point lead with a final score of 95-88.
“I was incredibly proud of how hard my guys played tonight. MidSouth is a very good basketball team, they are ranked number 16 in the nation for a reason. I felt like our kids really showed that they belong here. We can compete at this level. The future is going to be very bright for the Nighthawks,” said Head Coach Jason Hudnell.
Leading scorer for the men was Braylon Steen (24) of Bryant with 25 points, five rebounds, and one assist. KJ Corder (13) of Hot Springs earned 24 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Clyde Ricks (4) of Hope scored 17 points, two rebounds, and three assists.
Both the men and the women’s teams will travel to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to play Rhema Bible College Saturday, February 16 at 3 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
