Hogan Receives Award Of Distinction

National Park College (NPC) President, Dr. John Hogan has been awarded the Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction by the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society. This award recognizes college presidents who have demonstrated a strong level of support for PTK.

Dr. John Hogan, NPC PresidentDr. Hogan’s commitment to Alpha Beta Psi, NPC’s chapter of PTK, is evident in his actions and the support he shows the chapter. He maintains chapter development, offers regional support, preserves chapter and college relations, advocates for resources for PTK, and helps fund travel to divisional, regional, and international conventions. Under the guidance of Dr. Hogan, the members have the opportunity to learn and grow not only as a chapter, but also individually as student leaders. Dr. Hogan will receive his award at the Society’s annual convention in Kansas City, Missouri April 19-22, 2018.

Current PTK president Melissa Krafft stated, “As the president of National Park College, Dr. Hogan recognizes the value that Phi Theta Kappa and its members bring to the campus. He understands the need to challenge students and guides them to success. He is not a president who sits behind a desk but one who knows his students and engages in their activities.”

Krafft credits Dr. Hogan for helping revive PTK on campus and says he expects the students to maintain 5-star chapter status, the highest level of chapter standing. “He believes in us, which makes it easier to believe in ourselves. He aids in the creation of the main projects the chapter is responsible for each year by engaging in and guiding the development of the ideas. Dr. Hogan participates in induction every semester and attends other events held by PTK. His involvement, recognition, and expectations are what pushes the chapter to greater heights each year, and he is very worthy of this award,” added Krafft.
