National Park College (NPC) Cultural Diversity Awareness Club (CDAC) and Student Life will host Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® in celebration of International Women’s Day March 8 at noon on the quad.
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® takes place on college and university campuses around the
country through the months of March and April annually. The march is a playful way
to increase awareness for serious women’s issues, including sexualized violence against
women. The march will feature male faculty, staff and students from a variety of areas
on campus who will wear red high-heeled shoes.
Darla Thurber, special assistant to the president and chief diversity officer said,
“The event is twofold in that it brings awareness to serious women’s issues such as
sexualized violence, as well as promotes the achievements of the many women who have
paved the way for our female students, faculty, and staff members. The men won’t have
to walk a literal mile, but they will walk far enough to get the experience.”
Greater Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year nominees have been invited
to attend and give a brief word of encouragement to attendees. Lunch will be served
beginning at noon and the march will begin at 12:30 p.m. The event is free and open
to the public.
