Wildlife Biologist Presents Trapping Lecture

Dr. Garrie, assistant professor of wildlife science at Arkansas Tech University.The National Park College (NPC) First Friday Lunch and Lecture Series hosted by the Math and Science Department was honored to welcome Dr. Jorista Garrie.  Dr. Garrie, assistant professor of wildlife science at Arkansas Tech University, visited NPC on Friday, February 2 to educate the community on the traps used to catch animals, the need to capture wild animals, and the markers used to track animals in the wild.

Dr. Garrie explained the difference between box/cage traps, foot holds, culvert traps, and drop nets. Dr. Garrie also provided examples as to which traps are used for specific animals along with the pros and cons of certain traps.

Dr. Garrie further clarified the need to capture wild animals to help curb population, prevent any damage or disease, and the need for research.
