NPTC Medical professions students Ariel Albo and Bridgette Thompson from Lake Hamilton
High School presented “Sister Operation” Friday, February 16, 2018. The project was
developed for the Health Sciences Occupations of America (HOSA) competition next month.
“”Thompson said that the project was inspired by her sister, who is in need of a kidney
transplant and is currently undergoing dialysis treatments. She stated that it has
been difficult to watch her sister’s battle.
Albo noted that Medical Profession instructor Sherree Hughes, who passed away last
month, had also been a great inspiration for the project. Before her passing, Hughes
used her personal experience with organ donation to help guide the students and provided
valuable resources for them.
Thompson and Albo said they were shocked to learn of the number of people in need
of transplants. They hope their work will help spread awareness about live donations
and the great need for organ donors.
