Smash The Bias

Smashing a pumpkin during Smash the Bias.Student, Laura Lopez, writing a bias on a pumpkin during Smash the Bias.The Student Government Association hosted the annual “Smash the Bias” event at the quad. Faculty, staff, and students were encouraged to write a bias on a pumpkin then smash the pumpkin. The event was held to celebrate cultural diversity.

During the event, SGA hosted a costume contest. Student costume contest winners were:

  1. Virginia Potts
  2. Colby Curry
  3. Melissa Krafft

Faculty/Staff winners were:

  1. James Montgomery
  2. Dr. Gwendolyn Carter
  3. Dr. Rebekah Robinette

Phi Theta Kappa Faculty Appreciation winnersPhi Theta Kappa announced the winners of the Faculty Appreciation Awards during Smash the Bias. The winners were:

Demystifier Award - Mr. John Tucker is recognized for his extraordinary gifts and is greatly appreciated by his students for his ability to transform the seeming impossible into easy to understand.

Most Inspiring Award - Dr. Samantha Christian is recognized for her amazing instinctive aptitude and ability to help students identify talents they never knew they possessed.

Most Innovative - Dr. Rebekah Robinnette is being recognized for tackling technology and using its tools to design original methods.

Most Knowledgeable - Dr. Rebekah Robinnette is being recognized for her dedication as an educator and for having a vast amount of knowledge on a wide range of topics.

Most Altruistic - Ms. Amy Benzi is being recognized for her compassionate commitment as well as her continuous and unselfish placement of her heart and soul into being an educator.
